Antonio Conte reveals what he said to Alexis Sanchez in Chelsea tunnel – but rules out late move for Arsenal star

Antonio Conte insists he won’t make a late move for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez.

Conte was spotted whispering in Sanchez’s ear ahead of Chelsea’s EFL Cup semi-final against the Gunners on Wednesday night sparking suggestions he was might have been trying to woo the Chilean.

Forward Sanchez is out of contract in the summer and already at the centre of a tug-of-war between Manchester rivals City and United who are trying to buy him this month.

But Conte said: “I said hello. He’s a great player and knows very well in my first season in Juventus we tried to buy him from Udinese and then he decided to go to Barcelona.

“He knows well my admiration for him and this was a good chance to tell hello to him.

“There was not other situation or other conversation. I have great admiration for great players. I think he is one of these players.

“I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know [where he will go] you have to ask which is his choice and maybe ask Arsenal, if they decide to sell him before June or now but for sure his future will be in a great club.”

Chelsea’s lack of interest in Sanchez has surprised some Blues supporters and Conte admits he will be a “great” bargain buy for whoever lands him.

He said: “If Manchester City wants Alexis Sanchez they buy him. They don’t have a problem about money and this investment.

“I think also he is a good investment because we are talking about a top player in a moment when you can buy him with a price that is not so high. Because I listen that the amount is around 20m.

“If you go to buy Alexis Sanchez with a normal price it is normally €80-90m. This is a great chance for the club that can invest in him.”
