Harry Maguire will be going to Manchester United this week, Claude Puel has revealed – but as a Leicester player.
Centre back Maguire has been a United target throughout the summer transfer window, with his World Cup performances for England catching Jose Mourinho’s eye.
The Red Devils are in the hunt for a late defensive signing, with a late swoop for Diego Godin rejected and only faint hopes of adding Toby Alderweireld or Jerome Boateng to the squad.
Maguire also appears to be a no-go with Leicester reluctant to sell ahead of the 5pm deadline – although United may try a late bid for the £70million rated ace.
But Foxes chief Puel trolled Mourinho in his press conference by cheekily revealed Maguire will definitely be at Old Trafford by Friday.
That is because the Foxes open up their Premier League campaign against United on Friday night.
“I can confirm that Harry Maguire is going to Manchester – but only for our game tomorrow night!” Puel joked.
“We’ve had a good talk with Harry and we can’t change things this close to the end of the transfer window… He’s come back with a good spirit and a fantastic attitude.”
The Foxes have managed to sign a defender of their own with Filip Benkovic signing a five-year deal from Dinamo Zagreb.
