Real Madrid target Mauro Icardi will reportedly undergo a medical with the Spanish champions later this month.
Los Blancos have been tipped to bring in a forward in January following the failure to replace Alvaro Morata.
They have been linked with RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner but reports in Spain suggest they have decided to move for Icardi.
The Inter Milan striker will undergo a medical with Real on December 26, reports Diario Gol.
It is claimed the deal could cost Real around £70million.
It comes amid reports Florentino Perez held a two-hour summit to discuss Real’s January transfer plans.
As well as a striker, Los Blancos have been eyeing a new long-term goalkeeper for some time while a move for a central defender is not being ruled out.
Cristiano Ronaldo had previously claimed the squad is much weaker than last term following the exits.
Real legend Jorge Valdano also suggested the lack of depth in Zinedine Zidane’s squad is behind their stuttering start to the season.
“Last year Zidane rotated the side and it worked out great with him not having any issues in the changing room,” Valdano said.
“Those waiting in the wings are very young lads who haven’t shown consistency. The team needs another centre half and a striker.”
